PETALING JAYA: Professional mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie booked their place in the quarter-finals of the German Open after defeating Sweden's Filip Karlborg-Tilda Sjoo on Thursday (Feb 26).
In the second round match at the Westenergie Sporthalle in Mulheim, the fifth seeds were in control as they secured a 21-18, 21-11 win in 30 minutes.
Awaiting them in the quarter-finals are Singapore-Indonesia duo Terry Hee-Gloria Widjaja, who upset fourth seeds Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje of Denmark 21-19, 15-21, 21-11.
However, compatriots Jimmy Wong-Lai Pei Jing saw their campaign end in the second round after going down to Thailand's Supak Jomkoh-Ornnicha Jonsathapornparn 16-21, 22-20.
Meanwhile, women’s singles shuttler Wong Ling Ching continued her steady rise after stunning third seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand.
In the second round match, world No. 41 Ling Ching delivered an impressive display to defeat the world No. 8 in straight games 21-14, 21-19 in 38 minutes.
The victory also avenged her defeat to Chochuwong when they first met in the Uber Cup in Chengdu two years ago.
Awaiting Ling Ching in the quarter-finals will be the winner of the match between Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min and China’s Han Qianxi.
