PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional has won the Johor election by a landslide, allowing it to form the new state government.

The coalition secured 48 seats, which is more than the 29 needed for a simple majority in the 56-seat state assembly. 

Barisan won a two-thirds majority after it surpassed the 37-seat mark.

The only other coalition to win is Pakatan Harapan with eight seats.

When it comes to the popular vote, Barisan had the biggest share.

The coalition garnered 1.12 million votes, which was 59.7% out of the total 1.87 million ballots cast.

This was followed by Pakatan which secured about 611,000 votes or 32.6%.
