A FORMER auditor filed a case with the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal against a property management and co-living company for failing to refund his deposit of RM5,400.
Nik Muhammad Hadief Nik Harith said he was promised the refund in December last year after vacating a rented condominium unit.
“My tenancy agreement was from Nov 18, 2024 to Nov 30, 2025,” said the 28-year-old when met outside the tribunal.
“I paid a two-month rental deposit of RM4,200, utility deposit of RM1,050 and RM150 for the condominium’s access card.
“The tenancy agreement stated that the RM5,400 was refundable and that the rental unit should be in ‘as is’ condition when returned to the company,” he said.
Nik Muhammad Hadief said he had vacated the 17th floor unit located at Taman Suria Muafakat, near Bandar Baru Uda, on Nov 29, 2025 in good condition.
He added that there were five other renters in the same block who dealt with the same company based in Taman Mutiara Mas, Skudai.
“The company had promised to refund the RM5,400 and I waited until January this year but did not receive it,” he said.
Nik Muhammad Hadief filed the case with the tribunal in February 2026.
He attended the hearing four times while the respondent was absent, despite being served notice.
Tribunal president Lee Chim Thim ordered the respondent to refund RM5,400 to the claimant within two weeks.
