After undergoing treatment for a heart condition, Malaysian comedian Abon is now facing impaired kidney function, requiring monitoring and follow-up treatment.
Abon, whose real name is Sharizan Ahmad, 66, said his heart condition had improved after undergoing an angioplasty procedure earlier this month, but attention was now focused on his kidney problems.
He is scheduled to undergo dialysis at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) today (Sept 9) to remove excess fluid from his body, which has caused swelling in his legs.
"Doctors informed me that the fluid used during the heart procedure affected my kidneys. The dialysis is only a temporary treatment to prevent the kidneys from being overburdened,” he told Bernama when met at his home here yesterday (Sept 8).
He said he had undergone dialysis twice previously.
Abon is also taking a special milk supplement costing about RM240 for a week, in addition to having to limit his salt intake and avoid certain types of food during his recovery.
He suffered his second heart attack last July, and medical examinations found that three of his blood vessels were blocked, following which he was advised to undergo treatment including angioplasty and stent insertion.
To ease the burden on his family, Abon plans to apply for assistance from the Social Welfare Department, as he is currently unable to work, as well as benefits from the Social Security Organisation (Socso), as the heart attack occurred while he was working.
"I am trying to apply for assistance because I am unable to work now and have no income. I do not want to place too much of a burden on my wife,” he said.
Earlier, Abon received a visit from Finas Industry Affairs, Welfare and Industry Data Committee chairman Rozaidi Abdul Jamil, better known as Zed Zaidi, who also presented a contribution from Finas under the Ziarah Seni Madani programme at his home. – Bernama
